An annulment, different from a decree of divorce, is a Declaration of Freedom to Marry. If you are a Catholic or are planning to marry a Catholic and either of you have been previously married and divorced, a Declaration of Nullity is required that provides one with the freedom to marry again in the Catholic Church.
